About

My adventures in (and attempts to decipher)everything that is overtly ignored by most. My admittedly mostly grossly uninformed ramblings about various topics. And some that I might actually know something about.

Just saying.

1. Got the new she & him. Better than the first, as far as I can tell so far. Definitely an upper. Specifically Lingering Still. M. Ward is my fave, especially as he keeps getting better and better.

2. My fingers def hurt after learning my first chord change! Well on my way to guitar-goddess standing.  Not really, but it’s the biggest start yet. I’m so tempted to not learn anything and just write songs that I think are beautiful…but I figure you’ve gotta understand the underlying concepts to make something truly remarkable, and I don’t want to just make shit songs.

3. Healthcare passed—I’m surprised and the amount of negative reactions I’m seeing, I’m overall pleased with the movement. As someone who has dealt with not having healthcare, it’s definitely a scary situation.

4. I saw my first pick-up basketball game.  It was the last actually nice day (like 65 degrees and cloudless) before yesterdays (what would essentially count as a blizzard) weather ensued.  It didn’t matter how old you were, what color you were, what attitude you had, as long as you were interested in playing. Now, I didn’t play so I’m sure there were some underlying contingencies that I didn’t pick up on, but from an outsiders point of view it was an awesome experience of neighborhood unification.  Strangers coming together and just hanging out—it was awesome. I did, however, play pick-up frisbee, which ended up having the same sort of effect. We talked to a stranger and just EXISTED.  I felt like it was 1953. It was pretty sweet.

5. Life calculator tool: I stumbledupon this (though I can’t find the link) life-expectancy quiz thing that actually seemed minutely legitimate.  It said I’m going to live, possibly, until I’m 91.  It is unbelievably important that I try to keep in mind that THIS is why I need to try to not do immensely self-destructive things.  Even if I’m on this earth for 50 years, living like a degenerate—-I could do alot more in 90 years, living in a way that helps me get to that 90/100 benchmark, than I can in 50. And I can have a lot more fun too.

6. whole foods sampled strawberry rhubarb crisp today. Apparently it’s summer in the south.  And I am all over that.
